The High Commission of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom Holds Annual Ifthar Reception

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London, United Kingdom held its Annual Ifthar reception on 25th May to commemorate the month of Ramadan, with the participation of the Sri Lankan community living in the UK.

Moulawi Salman of the Harrow Mosque led the prayers and addressed the gathering. Moulawi Salman blessed the country and the people of Sri Lanka, while recalling the significance of Ramadan.

Addressing the gathering, Acting High Commissioner Sugeeshwara Gunaratna, stressed on the universal significance of the month of Ramadan and the importance behind the concepts of abstinence, self-sacrifice and charity that marked the month of Ramadan. He also stated that Sri Lanka was home to people from all the four major religious beliefs of the world and recalled the contribution of the Muslim community to Sri Lankan society in all spheres including, among others, business and finance, politics and academia.

A traditional Ifthar dinner was made available to the Sri Lankan community attending the reception.
