Expatriate Sri Lankans in the UK appreciate the screening of the documentary film “TRUTH BEHIND DARE – Unearthing systematically suppressed plight of humanity ended in 2009”

The documentary film “TRUTH BEHIND DARE – Unearthing systematically suppressed plight of humanity ended in 2009” produced by the independent and non-profit media initiative Lanka Courier was screened by the Sri Lanka High Commission in London on Zoom platform on 23 February 2021 for the Expatriate Sri Lankans in the UK.

The event was attended by around 500 participants representing Sri Lankans of all ethnicities. In addition to the viewers from the UK, there were participants from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Switzerland. Delivering the introductory remarks on the occasion, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK Saroja Sirisena emphasised the need for the young people of Sri Lankan origin to educate themselves on the situation in Sri Lanka. She compared attempts to radicalise and misuse such young people to parrot anti-Sri Lanka rhetoric by the remnants of the LTTE who operate freely in Western countries to the recruitment of child soldiers by them during the conflict.

The screening of the documentary film was followed by an interactive session wherein the participants appreciated the initiative of the High Commission and the opportunity to view the documentary which exposes the atrocities committed by the LTTE, which masqueraded as the representatives of the Tamil people, to the world. Particularly young participants welcomed the opportunity to learn about facts about the terrorist conflict in Sri Lanka. They also stated that the world deserves to see the peace that prevails in Sri Lanka and the harmony that always existed and continues to exist among all ethnic groups that make Sri Lanka their home.
