Minister of State for Commonwealth and UN Lord Tariq Ahmad signs Condolence Book at Sri Lanka High Commission in London.

The Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief visited the Sri Lanka High Commission on Thursday 02 May 2019 to sign the Book of Condolence following the tragic terror attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka.  The Lord Ahmad was received by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Manisha Gunasekera.  In a discussion with the High Commissioner, the Lord Ahmad extended his deep condolences to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka and referred to the support being extended by the UK Government to Sri Lanka in various spheres in the aftermath of this tragedy.  As the UK Prime Minister’s Envoy on Freedom of Religion, the Lord Ahmad extended his particular concern and sadness with regard to the indiscriminate targeting of a particular religious community, and highlighted the need to build further on interfaith harmony and understanding in the aftermath of this tragedy.  The High Commissioner expressed her deep appreciation to Lord Ahmad for the expression of concern, support and solidarity with Sri Lanka following the unprecedented multiple terror attacks.

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom H.E. Manisha Gunasekera called on the Secretary of State for International Trade The Rt. Hon. Dr Liam Fox, MP, on Tuesday 19 March 2019 at the latter’s office in Parliament in London. The productive meeting entailed discussion on the promotion of trade and investment interests between the two countries, as well as possible arrangements with regard to Sri Lanka’s exports to the UK market post-Brexit. High Commission of Sri Lanka in London commemorates 71st Anniversary of Independence with UK dignitaries, MPs, and community leaders

The 71st Anniversary of Independence was commemorated on the morning of 04 February 2019 at the Sri Lanka High Commission premises in London with a large, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural gathering of the Sri Lankan diaspora community.

The event commenced with the hoisting of the National flag by High Commissioner Manisha Gunasekera and the playing of the National Anthem in Sinhala.  Two minutes’ silence was observed in memory of war heroes and all those who had laid down their lives in defence of the Motherland.
