Deepavali Celebrations 2025 at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London

The Sri Lanka High Commission in London celebrated Deepavali – the Festival of Lights on 22 October 2025 at the High Commission premises in Hyde Park Gardens. The event brought together members of the British Sri Lankan community, representatives of religious and community organisations, and friends of Sri Lanka for an evening of culture, unity, and reflection. The programme commenced with Hindu religious observances and an offering of flowers, followed by a Pushpanjali dance. High Commissioner Nimal Senadheera, delivered the Deepavali Address, reflecting on the festival’s timeless message of harmony, compassion, and hope. He noted that Deepavali serves as a reminder of humanity’s shared responsibility to dispel darkness both within and around us through understanding, kindness, and unity. In his remarks, the High Commissioner also referred to the message of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, who highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering a just, inclusive, and peaceful society where the well-being and dignity of all people are safeguarded.

The event featured vibrant array of cultural performances and music, celebrating the richness and diversity of Sri Lanka’s heritage. Guests exchanged greetings and immersed themselves in the festive spirit of Deepavali. The evening concluded with a reception, where invitees enjoyed Sri Lankan hospitality in an atmosphere of warmth and fellowship.
