As a new initiative aiming to reach out to potential Sri Lankan SME entrepreneurs living in the UK who are operating their business as startups, a promotional event tilted “Sri Lanka Business Promotion Dialogue” was organised on 31.01.2025 by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London jointly with NLC Consultants-UK. Delivering the opening remarks, Mr. Somasena Mahadiulwewa, Minister (Commercial) of the High Commission explained the goals to be achieved from the series of events which are to develop businesses involved by the Sri Lankan entrepreneurs in the UK, to promote and create an international market for Sri Lankan origin products in the UK, and also to enhance the related employability for Sri Lankans in the UK etc,.

The Westminster Abbey hosted a special Evensong Prayer Service on Tuesday, 4th February 2024, to commemorate Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day. The service took place in the historic Abbey, an iconic place of worship and national significance, bringing together Sri Lankans and well-wishers to reflect on the nation’s journey and pray for its future.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom commemorated the 77th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence on 4 February, 2025 at the High Commission in London.

The ceremony commenced with the singing of the National Anthem in Sinhala, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Multifaith religious observances were conducted by leading religious representatives: Most Ven Bogoda Seelawimala Thero, Chief Sanga Nayake of Great Britain & Chief Incumbent of London Buddhist Vihara,  Reverend Sivananthasarma Sivaruban Kurukkal, Sheikh Thalha Siddiq of Sri Lanka Muslim Cultural Centre in Harrow, and Reverend Father Kamal Kumara of the Sri Lankan Catholic Chaplaincy, who collectively invoked blessings for peace, unity, and prosperity.
