Ceylon Tea, finest orthodox tea gifted to the world from Sri Lanka promoted at the UK Parliament
On 15th March 2023, High Commission, together with Sri Lanka Tea Board organized afternoon tea at the Terrace Pavilion, at the Palace of Westminster during the visit of Foreign Minister Ali Sabry to the United Kingdom. The event was a platform to promote Ceylon tea, the finest orthodox tea gifted to the world from Sri Lanka. The Rt Hon the Lord Naseby PC facilitated the event at which over 60 invitees including the Members of the Houses of Parliament, UK government officials, representatives of the UK tea trade, travel and food magazines participated.
Foreign Minister Ali Sabry participates at the Commonwealth Day
Foreign Minister Ali Sabry who is on an official visit to the UK to participate at the 22nd Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting attended a number of events commemorating the Commonwealth Day on 13 March 2023.
The main event was the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in which His Majesty King Charles III, Queen Consort and members of the Royal Family attended. Ven Dr Bogoda Seelawimala, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain and Chief Incumbent of London Buddhist Vihara invoked blessings on the Commonwealth of nations and its peoples on behalf of Buddhists, during the service. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s independence, the High Commission of Sri Lanka to the UK facilitated Roshani Abbey and Nuwan Hugh Perera, Sri Lankan artistes to perform at the service. The Service also featured a procession of young flag bearers representing each of the 56 nations of the Commonwealth, where Miss Thejani Mahadiulwewa carried the Sri Lankan flag.
Foreign Minister Sabry also attended the reception hosted by His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on the occasion of the Commonwealth Day.
Earlier in the day Foreign Minister Sabry participated at the Commonwealth Day ceremonial flag raising hosted by The Right Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons at the Palace of Westminster and laid a wreath at the wreath-laying ceremony at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates, to pay tribute to the 5 million servicemen and women who were in the Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars, and at the flag-raising event for the Commonwealth Flag for Peace at Marlborough House.
High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the UK Saroja Sirisena was associated with Foreign Minister Sabry at these events.

High Commission of Sri Lanka in London commemorates the 75th Anniversary of Independence with a series of events
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London organised a series of events to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Independence. The year 2023 also marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the UK.
On 2nd February 2023, High Commissioner Saroja Sirisena in partnership with Mr David Rose, Managing Director of Garment Services Group Ltd which has a long association with Sri Lanka for over four decades, hosted a luncheon at the Dorchester Hotel with the former Prime Minister of UK, David Cameron as the Guest of honour. The other guests included Lord Davies of Abersoch CBE, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Sri Lanka; Lord Marland, Chairman Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) and The Rt Hon Nigel Adams MP. Captains of British industry in partnership with Sri Lanka and President of Sri Lanka-UK Chamber of Commerce were also amongst the invitees. Addressing the gathering, Mr Cameron referred to Sri Lanka’s resilient spirit and potential to emerge out of adversity with the support of the friends in the international community. British Leaders and the Diplomatic Community celebrate Sri Lanka’s 75th Independence
The Right Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons was the Chief Guest at the reception to commemorate Sri Lanka’s 75th Anniversary of Independence organised by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London on 8th February 2023.
Members of the Houses of Parliament, Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, Heads of Missions and members of the Diplomatic community, representatives of the British business community and friends and well-wishers were amongst the invitees to celebrate this special occasion. » Read more
