Manisha Gunasekera, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Assumes Duties
The newly appointed High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom, Manisha Gunasekera assumed duties at the Mission on 23rd October 2018. High Commissioner Gunasekera was received upon arrival, by Mr David Pearey, Special Representative of the UK Foreign Secretary.
Addressing the staff of the High Commission upon assumption of duties, High Commissioner Gunasekera spoke to the staff and outlined the importance and significance of Sri Lanka’s bilateral relations with the United Kingdom. Her assumption of duties was marked by the lighting of the oil lamp and milk rice and other sweetmeats being served in keeping with Sri Lankan traditions.
High Commissioner Gunasekera joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1996, and has among other posts, served as Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea; Deputy Permanent Representative, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva; Director General (East Asia and Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka; Director General (Donor Coordination), Ministry of Economic Development of Sri Lanka; Counsellor, Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan; and Second Secretary, Embassy of Sri Lanka in France.
High Commissioner Gunasekera has a BA (Hons.) in English from the University of Delhi, a Masters degree in International Political Economy and Development from the International Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, a Masters degree in Women’s Studies from the University of Colombo and a Postgraduate Diploma in European Studies from Sciences Po, Paris. She is a past pupil of Musaeus College, Colombo.
