Evensong Prayer at Westminster Abbey to Mark Sri Lanka’s Independence Day

The Westminster Abbey hosted a special Evensong Prayer Service on Tuesday, 4th February 2024, to commemorate Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day. The service took place in the historic Abbey, an iconic place of worship and national significance, bringing together Sri Lankans and well-wishers to reflect on the nation’s journey and pray for its future.


The Evensong Service, a time-honoured tradition of Anglican worship, featured choral music performed by the renowned Westminster Abbey Choir, scripture readings, and prayers for Sri Lanka and its people. The Acting High Commissioner read the Second Lesson, Matthew 11: 2–19.
This special service underscores the enduring ties between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, fostering a spirit of unity, reflection, and hope.
