Iftar Reception Hosted by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London in Collaboration with COSMOS UK and other Organisations
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London, in collaboration with the Council of Sri Lankan Muslim Organisations (COSMOS – UK) and other community organisations, hosted an Iftar Reception on 28 February 2026 at the High Commission premises.
The programme commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, setting a reflective and spiritual tone for the evening. The gathering brought together religious leaders, community representatives, professionals, and members of the Sri Lankan Muslim community in the United Kingdom in observance of the holy month of Ramadan.
In his address, the High Commissioner welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of Ramadan as a time of reflection, compassion, and generosity, noting that the holy month brings people together and strengthens mutual understanding and social harmony. He also expressed sincere appreciation to Sri Lankan Muslim community organisations in the UK for their generous support following Cyclone Ditwah, observing that their collective response demonstrated solidarity and reflected an enduring bond with Sri Lanka.
Other speakers at the event underscored the importance of Iftar as a moment of unity, fellowship, and gratitude, noting that such gatherings strengthen bonds within the community and promote mutual understanding across diverse groups. They spoke positively of the current policies and direction of the Government of Sri Lanka, particularly its emphasis on inclusivity, reconciliation, national unity, and sustainable development for all communities and reaffirmed their support for initiatives aimed at strengthening social harmony and national progress.
The programme also featured Islamic nasheed and devotional performances by young members of the community, adding a meaningful cultural dimension to the evening and highlighting the active participation of youth in community life.
The event concluded with the breaking of the fast and the observance of Maghrib prayers, reaffirming a shared spirit of reflection, unity, and fellowship.
