High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Meets with Sri Lankan Chevening Scholars

High Commissioner Nimal Senadheera, along with senior diplomats, met Sri Lankan Chevening Scholars on 18 March 2026 in a warm and engaging gathering celebrating academic excellence, leadership, and international collaboration. Reece Smith, Team Leader – Sri Lanka, South Asia Regional Department, South Asia & Afghanistan Directorate of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), also attended the event.

The meeting brought together ten scholars pursuing postgraduate studies across the UK under the Chevening Scholarship programme. The High Commissioner commended their achievements and encouraged them to fully utilise the academic and professional opportunities available.
He highlighted the role of education in strengthening Sri Lanka–UK relations and the scholars’ potential to contribute to innovation, knowledge exchange, and cultural understanding. The scholars shared their academic experiences and future aspirations, reflecting a strong commitment to contributing to Sri Lanka’s development.
The High Commissioner expressed his appreciation for their dedication and encouraged them to remain connected, support one another, and contribute meaningfully to Sri Lanka upon completion of their studies.
