Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Finance and Mass Media of Sri Lanka met with the The Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the UK, on Monday 21 January 2019, during a visit to London.  Issues of mutual interest in the Sri Lanka-UK bilateral relationship were discussed at the meeting, including Sri Lanka’s progress in the reconciliation process, and the country’s engagement in the Commonwealth.

Sri Lanka High Commissioner pays courtesy call on the UK Minister for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field

The new High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom Manisha Gunasekera paid a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Mark Field, MP, on Thursday 17 January 2019 in London. The Strengthening of the strong bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the UK, and issues of relevance in the political and economic spheres were discussed during the meeting. The High Commissioner updated Minister Mark Field on current developments in Sri Lanka, and acknowledged the support extended by the UK Government towards the country’s reconciliation process.  The High Commissioner was accompanied to the meeting by Deputy High Commissioner Sugeeshwara Gunaratna.

Ceremonial Commencement of Work for the New Year by the Sri Lanka High Commission in London

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag of Sri Lanka at the Chancery building by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom Manisha Gunasekera, followed by the singing of the National Anthem of Sri Lanka by High Commission staff. Thereafter, two minutes’ silence was observed to commemorate war heroes and all those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the Motherland.  This was followed by the Oath of Public Servants delivered in Sinhala and Tamil languages.

Sri Lanka High Commission in London Celebrates Christmas with the Sri Lankan Community of all Faiths and Ethnicities

The High Commission of  Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom organised its Annual Christmas Carol Service and Celebrations on Thursday 13 December 2018 in the High Commission premises with the participation of the Sri Lankan community representing all faiths, denominations and ethnicities. The celebrations were attended by Member of the House of Lords and friend of Sri Lanka Lord Mohamed Sheikh as the Chief Guest.

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Manisha Gunasekera met with the chaplain to the Sinhalese speaking community in the Archdioceses of Westminster and Southwark Rev. Father Sudam Perera at the Church of St Mary Magdalen in Willesden Green on Wednesday 28th November 2018.

Deepavali Celebrations in London

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London held its Annual Deepavali Celebrations on Friday 16th November 2018, in the High Commission premises.

The celebrations commenced with Hindu religious observances led by Sri Ramanadan Kurukkal who invoked blessings on Sri Lanka and its people. In his address he highlighted the significance of Deepavali and stated that all Sri Lankans should unite irrespective of their religious beliefs to develop the country.
