High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama met with Lord Brennan Kc, member of the House of Lords on 23 November 2023 at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom.

The High Commissioner discussed with Lord Brennan Kc, matters related to Sri Lanka-United Kingdom bilateral relations with a special emphasis on economic engagement. High Commissioner briefed Lord Brennan the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka and highlighted that Lord Brennan’s expertise in this area would significantly contribute to Sri Lanka’s journey in reconciliation, recovery, and progressive development.

High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama presents open copy of Letter of Credence

High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama presented the Open Copy of his Letter of Credence to Ms Victoria Busby OBE, Vice Marshal and Director of Protocol at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on 23 November 2023, before the formal and ceremonial presentation of Credentials to His Majesty King Charles III.

High Commissioner Bogollagama thanked Ms Busby for granting an early opportunity to present the open copy of his Letter of Credence and stated that he looks forward to further enhancing the close and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. High Commissioner Bogollagama extended warm greetings of President Ranil Wickremesinghe to His Majesty King Charles III for the continued progress and prosperity of the country and the peoples of the United Kingdom. He requested greater understanding by the UK Government on matters related to Sri Lanka which will lead to wider and deeper engagement between the two countries.

High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama assumes duties

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Rohitha Bogollagama who arrived in London on 19 November 2023 assumed duties at the High Commission at a simple ceremony today, 20 November 2023. High Commissioner Bogollagama was received upon arrival at Heathrow Airport by Mrs Kathryn Colvin, Special Representative of the UK Foreign Secretary.

Addressing the High Commission Staff upon assumption of duties, High Commissioner Bogollagama emphasised the importance of advancing national interests and urged the staff to work towards progressing the existing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. His assumption of duties was marked by the lighting of the oil lamp and milk rice and other sweetmeats being served in keeping with Sri Lankan traditions.

Sri Lanka Tourism showcases at World Travel Market in London

World Travel Market (WTM), the leading global event of Travel and Tourism Trade kicked off on 06 November 2023 at the Excel Exhibition Hall, London, UK promoting international travel throughout the world. WTM attracts more than 50,000 visitors, 5,000 trade partners (exhibitors) and over 3000 journalists around the world each year. The event was held for three days from 06-08 November 2023. With the intention of promoting Sri Lanka as a renowned destination in world travel, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) with the support of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London participated in the event, along with 73 partners of the industry.

A Business Delegation from the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) concludes a successful visit to the United Kingdom

As an initiative of the SLHC London, a twelve-member business delegation representing the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) visited the UK from 11th to 16th September 2023. The visit was aimed at further fostering trade and investment ties between the two countries and exploring new opportunities in the UK market, which absorbs 10% of Sri Lanka’s exports. The delegation headed by Secretary General of the NCE, Shiham Marikar, comprised representatives of leading Sri Lankan exporting companies i.e., Imperial Teas, Link Natural Products, LAUGFS Rubber Corporation, City Cycle Industries, Fanam International, Ruhunu Lanka Minerals, Senikma Holdings and Stay Naturals.

High Commissioner Saroja Sirisena attends the Opening ceremony of Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara

 

The largest stupa in Europe at the Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara was opened to the public on 16 September 2023 by Ven. Dr. Witharandeniye Kassapa Nayaka Thera O.B.E, the Chief Incumbent of Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara, Deputy Chief Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain, and the Vice President of Sri Lankan Sangha Sabha of Great Britian. High Commissioner Saroja Sirisena attended the opening ceremony on the invitation of Ven. Dr. Witharandeniye Kassapa Nayaka Thera on 16 September 2023.
