Minister of State for Commonwealth and UN Lord Tariq Ahmad signs Condolence Book at Sri Lanka High Commission in London.
The Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the UN at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief visited the Sri Lanka High Commission on Thursday 02 May 2019 to sign the Book of Condolence following the tragic terror attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka. The Lord Ahmad was received by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Manisha Gunasekera. In a discussion with the High Commissioner, the Lord Ahmad extended his deep condolences to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka and referred to the support being extended by the UK Government to Sri Lanka in various spheres in the aftermath of this tragedy. As the UK Prime Minister’s Envoy on Freedom of Religion, the Lord Ahmad extended his particular concern and sadness with regard to the indiscriminate targeting of a particular religious community, and highlighted the need to build further on interfaith harmony and understanding in the aftermath of this tragedy. The High Commissioner expressed her deep appreciation to Lord Ahmad for the expression of concern, support and solidarity with Sri Lanka following the unprecedented multiple terror attacks.

The interfaith meeting was organised by the Lord Sheikh, Member of the House of Lords in partnership with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK Manisha Gunasekera, in remembrance of the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks in Sri Lanka.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London has received a number of inquiries from well-wishers about ways of providing assistance to the people affected by the terrorist attacks.
The High Commission wishes to inform that the Government of Sri Lanka does not operate any Special Fund for this purpose.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP visited the Sri Lanka High Commission in London on Thursday 25 April 2019 to offer condolences to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka following the tragic terror attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka. The Home Secretary was received by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK Manisha Gunasekera. Following the signing of the Book of Condolence, in a brief meeting with the High Commissioner, the Home Secretary conveyed his deepest condolences to the Sri Lankan Government and its people, especially to the families of the victims, as well as to the British Sri Lankan community in the UK. He expressed the support and solidarity of the UK Government to Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the brutal attacks. The High Commissioner extended her deep appreciation to the Home Secretary for his concern and support, and for the cooperation extended by the UK Government in the aftermath of this tragedy.

Jeremy Hunt MP visited the Sri Lanka High Commission in London on Wednesday 24 April 2019 to offer condolences to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka following the tragic terror attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs was received by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK Manisha Gunasekera. Following the signing the Book of Condolence, the Secretary of State conveyed his deepest condolences on behalf of the UK Government to the Government of Sri Lanka led by President Maithripala Sirisena, the Sri Lankan people, and especially the families of the victims. High Commissioner Gunasekera extended her deep appreciation to Foreign Secretary Hunt for the strong support being extended by the UK Government including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the aftermath of this tragedy.
