Networking Dinner Reception for Ceylon Tea Promotion at the Sri Lanka High Commission

The Sri Lanka High Commission played host to a vibrant Networking Dinner Reception on March 26th, 2024, graciously hosted by High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama. It was attended by over a hundred distinguished guests from various sectors including the UK-Sri Lanka tea and food trade, UK businesses, senior officials from the UK Department of Business and Trade, Commonwealth trade-related bodies, UK trade chambers, and other influential figures involved in Sri Lanka-UK trade, economic, and investment relations.

A highlight of the evening was a detailed presentation by Mr. Niraj de Mel, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, who provided invaluable insights into the rich history of Ceylon Tea, as well as trends in the UK tea market and anticipated improvements in future tea trade with the UK and the EU. Complementing this informative session, Ms. Pavithri Peiris, Director-Promotion of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, engaged attendees with a visual presentation showcasing the allure and quality of Ceylon Tea through captivating videos.

In his address, High Commissioner Bogollagama underscored the importance of fostering deeper trade and investment ties between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. He extended an invitation for increased collaboration with the Sri Lanka High Commission and provided an overview of the country’s current positive economic outlook, highlighting the promising trade and economic trajectories under the leadership of His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President of Sri Lanka.

The Networking Dinner Reception served as an invaluable platform for fostering dialogue, building partnerships, and exploring avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
