Media Release: Ten-member contingent representing the tri-forces of Sri Lanka participates in the Coronation Procession

On the invitation of the British Government, a ten-member contingent of Sri Lanka armed forces visited the UK from 30 April- 7 May 2023 to take part in the Coronation Procession of Their Majesties King Charles III and The Queen Consort.

The delegation reached London on 30 April 2023 and took part in the rehearsals conducted by the UK Ministry of Defence. On 3 May, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Saroja Sirisena met the members of the delegation at the High Commission and expressed appreciation on taking part in the Coronation Procession. » Read more

Media Release: Prof Maithree Wickramasinghe, First Lady of Sri Lanka participates in Fireside Chat on cervical cancer

On the invitation of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland, Prof Maithree Wickramasinghe, First Lady of Sri Lanka participated in the Fireside Chat which was held on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Leaders Event on 5 May 2023. The session, which was hosted by Mrs Jeannette Kagame, the First lady of Rwanda, was moderated by the Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Dr Arjoon Suddhoo in conversation with the First Ladies of the Bahamas, Gabon, Ghana, and Sri Lanka. The focus of the discussion was on the designing and implementation of education and awareness advocacy campaigns to effectively reach women and girls to promote the importance of cervical cancer prevention and address the cultural and social barriers that may prevent them from seeking care. » Read more

Media release: President Ranil Wickremesinghe attends the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III

President Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the UK from 4-7 May 2023 to attend the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Prior to Coronation, on Friday, 5 May, President Wickremesinghe attended the Commonwealth Leaders Event at Marlborough House which was joined by His Majesty the King as the new Head of the Commonwealth. Commonwealth Leaders discussed the future of the Commonwealth, the potential of Commonwealth Youth to advance the principles set out in the Commonwealth Charter, including those of peace and sustainable development. President Wickremesinghe, in his remarks outlined the importance of the Commonwealth playing a more significant role in supporting education reforms that encourage youth involvement.
