With reference to comments that have appeared since the above appointment, the following is noted:

• The appointment of the Army Commander of Sri Lanka is a sovereign decision by the Head of State.

• Foreign entities trying to influence the decisions and internal administrative processes of public service promotions in Sri Lanka is unwarranted and unacceptable.

• Articulating a position of concern on this appointment by certain bilateral partners and international organizations, based on allegations, is regrettable and contrary to the principles of natural justice espoused by all responsible members of the international community.

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom Manisha Gunasekera met with a 16-member delegation from the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association on Monday 05 August 2019 at the Sri Lankan High Commission in London.  Fourteen girl guides from Musaeus College Colombo, Girls High School Kandy, Hillwood College Kandy and Maliyadewa Balika Vidyalaya Kurunegala led by the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association International Commissioner Manishini Ekanayake and Guide Captain Shiromi Serasinghe were in the UK to participate in a Girl Guide Camp in Leicestershire.

Sri Lanka is hosting the First Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Maritime Safety and Security Working Group (MSSWG), in Colombo on 8^th and 9^th August. This Meeting will finalize the Work Plan for two years, advancing the IORA Action Plan (2017-21) with Member States towards developing a regional agenda.
