Foreign Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris highlighted the ‘unique, multifaceted partnership’ enjoyed by Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, founded upon shared democratic traditions and historical affinities.  The Minister made these remarks at a meeting with Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, the Minister of State for South Asia, the United Nations and the Commonwealth of the UK on Tuesday 18 January at the Foreign Ministry.  Reciprocating the sentiments, Lord Ahmad acknowledged the abiding nature of the partnership which offers impetus for cooperation. » Read more

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK Saroja Sirisena addressed the Conservative Foreign and Commonwealth Council at the Carlton Club on 12 January 2022 under the theme ‘Sri Lanka, the Commonwealth and Global Britain’.

In her speech, she emphasised the broad spectrum of relations between Sri Lanka and the UK that are bound by historical ties dating back centuries and their expansion in the context of Sri Lanka’s membership in the Commonwealth. She elaborated that the Commonwealth is a natural launch pad of the Global Britain framework of the UK Government, and that Sri Lanka could be a significant partner to the Global Britain from Asia. » Read more

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK meets FCDO Minister of State for South and Central Asia, United Nations and the Commonwealth

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the UK Saroja Sirisena met the Minister of State for South and Central Asia, United Nations and the Commonwealth Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on 11 January 2022 ahead of his forthcoming visit to Sri Lanka.

The meeting entailed discussion on issues of mutual interest in Sri Lanka – UK bilateral relations such as investment opportunities for UK companies in Sri Lanka, enhancing political relations between the two countries, partnership in education, employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in the UK and forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Rwanda and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The staff of the Sri Lanka High Commission in the United Kingdom commenced work for the year 2022

 

The staff of the Sri Lanka High Commission in the United Kingdom commenced work for the year 2022 by organising a special programme at the High Commission premises.

The programme commenced with the singing of the National Anthem by the staff of the High Commission and observing two minutes’ silence to commemorate war heroes and those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the Motherland. This was followed by affirming the Public Servants’ Oath.

High Commissioner Saroja Sirisena in her remarks thanked the staff for the cooperation and support extended to achieve the objectives of the High Commission during the past challenging year. She also highlighted the importance of upholding the highest standards of integrity and commitment to discharge duties towards the benefit of all Sri Lankans. » Read more
